Our 100 mums and baby event began in July 2020. My aim was to photograph 100 Mums with her children. However the typical british weather got in the way and with social distancing etc in place meaning I needed to keep the sessions to outdoors only, I ended the sessions in October 2020. I would like to still reach my target of 100 sessions. I have current done 36 and raised £360 for St John’s Hospice.

I then went on to add 6-12 weeks in 2021 to finish the sessions and reach my goal whilst raising more money for this amazing charity, but again the weather got in the way! So we are back for year 3 of 100 mums and baby!

If you’ve made it here you must have read about our 100 Mum’s and Baby’s mini photoshoots.

Back in March 2020, I put out a survey on my social media pages asking Mum’s of all generations to answer a few questions for me. My aim was to get 100 responses to help give me enough information and detail.

So what was the survey about?

“Existing in photographs with your children”

Being a photographer I understand the importance of capturing all those special moments in our life time to preserve the memories, thats my job. I got the idea from speaking to clients at sessions, family and friends. So many mum’s take photos of just the children or the children and dad or grandparents but not very often do they exist in the photographs unless its a selfie.

I want to change that.

“Creating beautiful images of you and your loved ones”

Over the course of a few weeks I got 100 responses to my survey. Here is what it showed me:

“ As a mum do you exist in enough photographs with your children?”

83% said no.

I then asked them why, where they were able to leave their own answers. From this I analysed the answers and put into categories.

“Always the one taking the photos” 39%

“No one to take them of us” 22%

“Don’t like how I look” 17%

These were the most common answers. It’s crazy how we don’t think to say to a Mum shall I get a photo of you and the children. As Mother’s so many of us just do it without even thinking.. but no one ever just offers to get one for you. I think its so important to exist in photographs with your children, for memories and for them to look back on when they are older and pass down to generations.

Which brings me to the next question I asked,

“Why is having photographs of you and your children important?”

83% said for the memories

I’m a big believer that photographs should be printed. We live in such a digital world these days, but when digital doesn’t work we can loose a lot of those memories and in years to come what good will a USB stick be to a new generation, the digital world changes almost yearly now. Get those photographs printed. Be able to touch them, show them off, display them and pass them down to generations to come.

“Do you print enough photographs of you and your children?’

75% said no.

My final question was

“Would you love to have professional photographs or you and your children?

94% said YES!
