Welcome.

Thank you so much for booking your maternity/newborn photography shoot with me. I absolutely LOVE to photograph newborn babies. It’s what I do and what I’m really passionate about. Before you come I wanted to share with you some hints and tips to make our time together run smoothly and ensure you get the absolute best out of your session(s).

Creating meaningful memories of the people you love

Having a new baby is one of the most wonderful experiences of our lives, it can also be overwhelming. I understand just how important the little things are. I’ve built my business around ensuring I make every step of this experience a worry free and exciting time for new parents to enjoy creating these memories as much as I do. I’ve put together this maternity/newborn guide to ensure you have all you need to know about the session(s); what to do beforehand to ensure baby is as comfortable as possible during the session, what to do if you can’t make the date, what to bring, what I need to know and what’s next. I’ve thought about everything so you don’t have too.

If you have any questions whatsoever, please feel free to contact me.

I can't wait to see you!

Maternity Session

Watching your body grow and change throughout pregnancy is a wonderful thing. Many new mummy’s to be don’t realise just how quickly those 9 months go and really miss their beautiful bump once baby arrives. Which is why I feel our maternity sessions are so important to help you really capture and document your journey into motherhood.

Preparing for your maternity session, take this time to do something for yourself. A lot of my mum’s to be take a trip to the salon before their session for hair and make up. Of course this is optional but it’s a great way to treat yourself. If you choose to do your own make up, do put a little more on than normal as the lights can absorb make up making you look washed out, matte foundations work best.

Our sessions consist of 3 different backdrop style, cream background for a more casual look, images you can share with family. Then we will move onto our black backdrop / silhouette wall. This is wear we will play with lace cover ups and moving down to underwear images. Shooting mostly in black and white. I want to really focus on bump and make you feel your best. I will talk you through how to pose as we go whilst keeping it simple.

What to bring with you?

  • Bring two sets of underwear with you black and a white set, so we can try different style’s to see what works and suits you best. I have a small selection of dresses, lace cover ups and silk robes, you’re welcome to bring your own outfits too. I highly recommend a tight fitting or knit style dress to show bump off or jeans with an oversized shirt which we can unbutton to have bump on show.

  • Avoid arriving in tight clothing as this can leave marks which will be visible in your images such as tight socks and jeans.

  • If a studio session isn’t for you I also offer lifestyle sessions outdoors. These are perfect if you want to involve your partner or other siblings

  • Partners and siblings are still welcome to guide in for a few images during a studio session.

Newborn Session

What to do now you’ve booked in?

We’ve booked your floating date - this is a provisional date, which can be changed if baby is early or late.

As your due date approaches, I will be in touch (around 2 weeks before this date) to check how everything is going and review the date if needed. We can also go over any final details in this call/email . Don’t worry about remembering the date and times, I will send reminders a day in advance each step of the way.

Preparing for your newborn session?

Selecting your colours for your session. Don't worry the colour palette is just below for you and on the bottom of this page. Please make sure that you have decided on the right colour tones for you and your family before our pre-consultation call/email. This ensures I have everything ready for your arrival so we can make the best use of our time together … creating beautiful memories of your loved one.

Feel free to choose up to three colours, if you prefer we can mix and match. Some clients find it helpful to base this on the colour scheme used throughout their home, the nursery theme or colours they like in general. Thinking about where you may display the images this may help you to make the decision too.

A few steps to follow on the day

The session will last between 2-3 hours depending on how well baby settles. This will allow plenty of time for feeds, a few mummy cuddles if baby is unsettled and anything else that may be unexpected. I understand how important these images are and also the unpredictability of time that can come with a newborn baby. That’s why I take out the whole day in my diary, to guarantee we have all the time we need so you don’t have to worry or feel under any pressure.

Feeding baby just before you leave for your session helps them sleep. If you are travelling more than 30 minutes please try and feed when you arrive in the studio. If your travel time is longer than 30 mins, feel free to let me know and I can ensure time is made at the beginning of the session for you to feed and settle baby. Please bring 2-3 bottles with you or expressed milk for your session incase baby is unsettled and we need to stop.

Front opening baby grow’s without a vest on underneath means I am less likely to wake baby when getting them ready to take pictures, keeping baby as comfortable as possible means the session runs more smoothly. Please assure you wrap up baby with an extra layer such as a blanket or snow coat when travelling - depending on the time of year.

Dummies are great to help settle baby in between posing and keep disruptions to a minimum. If your baby uses a dummy please bring with you, along with a spare.

It’s all about you..

I love to include new parents in my sessions, you are more than welcome to join in. If you wish to have some photos with baby please dress in plain colours, for example blacks, navy, whites or creams (patterns can overpower an image, and logos can date an image) Many new mums often decide last minute to join in so don’t worry about letting me know before the shoot - you can decide on the day.

If you are bringing siblings (Please do let me know) it is best to arrange for them to come during the last 30 minutes of the session as they can often become bored.Often times whilst I’m working, new parents love to take advantage of this time and put their feet up and read a book with a hot cup of tea, catch up on work, respond to celebratory texts. However you want to spend this time, come prepared and make sure it’s all about you.

Finally, in the the best interests of the baby the temperature of the room will fluctuate and can go up to 70-75 degree when baby is undressed; so you may get a little toasty - please dress in layers. It is set to this temperature as baby will mainly be in the nude for the session and is used to being warm and tight space before birth so this helps keep them happy, calm and sleepy.

Please note your babies temperature is monitored at all times throughout the session.
